Isles

Close to Cape Gregali, in the northeastern part of Alonissos, are the islands of Moules (Baby and Child), near the west coast are the islets Stavros and Manolalas, near the cape Kokkinokastro or Kokkinonissi. Gioura

Island is a fishing village with an elongated shape, steep coastline and a highest peak of 570m. It is of particular ecological interest – on its rugged and inaccessible territory lives a rare, protected species of goat. In the southern part of the island is the cave of Cyclops, the largest of the Northern Sporades, with rich decoration. Excavations have revealed important findings (the 9th millennium human skull segment, vases broken, pyretholium blades, fireplaces and food debris, fishing hooks, stone and bone tools, lanterns, etc.), which refer to the Mesolithic (9th & millennium BC), Neolithic (6500-4000 BC), Classical, Hellenistic and Roman periods.
Between Gioura and Kyra Panagia is formed the Strain of Yiour. In the middle there are the grand islets Babes (with the church of Evangelistria), Koumpi and Prasos (Grammia or Grammeza), where discoveries of Prehistoric and Historical times have come to light.

Kyra Panagia (Pelagonisi)

In the eastern part of it is the monastery of Kyra Panagia, the monastery of the Holy Mount of Mount Athos. The remains of the Neolithic, Classical, Hellenistic and Byzantine period have been found on the island. Kyra Panagia has two natural harbors, Saint Peter and the Planet. In the bay of Agios Petros, in the homonymous islet, a Neolithic settlement was found, founded in the middle of the 6th millennium BC. and created the “St. Peter’s culture”. Findings include, among other things, buildings, ceramic figurines, stone tools, silt and animal bones, clay objects. In the same area where the remains of an Early Christian basilica are preserved, there was a monastery referring to old documents of the monastery of the highest Lavra of Mount Athos. The bay of Planet, an appropriate and safe anchor for all times, was a pirates base. In the sea area of Kyra Panagias a wreck of Classical Era (5th century BC) was found – the ship, probably an Athenian merchant, carried a large quantity of amphorae of wine (3,000-4,000).
Southwest of St. Peter’s bay is the rocky island of Pelerissa (Fangrou). North of the Planet bay lies the Sipka rocky island.

Peristera (Aspro or Ksiro)

Island in the east of Alonissos, Peristera consists of two parts, which are joined together by a narrow neck. The highest peak is the Stefani (250m). Prehistoric remains and ancient tombs have been found on the island. The lacy beaches of the island and the channel formed between Alonnisos and Peristeras are an ideal place for sea excursions. The bays of Vassiliko, Kokkalia and Peristeri are offered for docking.
To the north-east of Peristeri is Vrachosis Lechousa (Lykourumma), with the highest peak of 125m. South, the Brothers, a cluster of rocky islands – the largest is the Adelphi (Big Brother), with the highest peak of 178m, and the Brotherhood (Little Brother).
